Dr. Scott Binder, joins APMG

Dr. Binder is a nationally and internationally known dermatopathologist with one of the largest consultative practices in the country.  He receives more than 6,000 second opinion consults on difficult and challenging cases in dermatopathology from academic institutions, reference laboratories and community pathology groups from all over the country as well as international cases from Greece, China, and Korea. Dr. Binder was inducted into the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences in 2006.

Dr. Binder began his academic career as an Associate Clinical Professor at USC/LA County Medical Center, and was recruited by Cedars-Sinai as Director of Surgical Pathology and Head of Dermatopathology and Gastrointestinal Pathology. In 2001, Dr. Binder joined the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at UCLA where he was Professor of Clinical Pathology and Professor of Dermatology. In 2006, Dr. Binder was appointed as Senior Vice Chair of the Department and Director of Clinical Pathology Services; in 2007, he was chosen as the Pritzker Family Chair of Clinical Pathology and Dermatology. In 2002, Dr. Binder founded the Dermatopathology Fellowship Program at UCLA and trained fellows for 15 years who hold both academic and community-based positions across the US. He has trained international scholars from countries including China, Germany, Greece, Iran, Israel, Japan, and South Korea among others.

APMG to Provide Pathology Services for Redlands Community Hospital

Starting September 1st, 2016, APMG will extend its pathology services to Redlands Community Hospital in Redlands, California. Dr. Si Nguyen, APMG Pathologist, was chosen to serve as Medical Director during this period.

Redlands Community Hospital is a 229-bed independent facility located between Los Angeles and Palm Springs, with service to this region for over a century. The hospital is staffed by 1400 employees, including 270 board-certified physicians and 300 volunteers; it also participates in 100 health plans. In 2016, the hospital earned the Healthgrades 2016 Patient Safety Excellence Award and the Healthgrades 2016 Outstanding Patient Experience Award.

APMG Presents at APF Annual Meeting in New Orleans

The American Pathology Foundation (APF) held its 2016 annual meeting in New Orleans. APMG members, including Dr. Kelli Chase and Stanette Kennebrew, have directed a number of instructional seminars and conferences for this foundation. For over 50 years, APF serves as a professional society devoted to the business and management of pathology, with an extensive history of producing quality educational programs and practice management resources for healthcare professionals.



APMG Pathologist Galen Cortina Lectures at Gastrointestinal Pathology Society

Galen Cortina, MD, APMG pathologist at Hollywood Presbyterian Memorial Medical Center, lectured on Isolated Tumor Cells in GI and Pancreatobiliary Carcinomas at the GI Pathology Society, an USCAP companion society. Dr. Cortina is the immediate past president of GIPS and now chairs its nominating committee.



APMG Awarded Contract for Pathology Services at Four Adventist Hospitals in Northern California

APMG was awarded the contract to provide pathology services to four Adventist Hospitals in Northern California: St. Helena Hospital Napa Valley, Ukiah Valley Medical Center, St. Helena Clear Lake, and Frank R. Howard Memorial Hospital. APMG prepared a comprehensive request for proposal and interviewed with administration and medical staff. Dr. Milon Amin Authors Content for Upcoming Pathology Informatics Reference Series

Dr. Milon Amin, APMG Pathologist, has authored content for Elsevier’s upcoming series “Pathology Informatics: An Issue in Surgical Pathology Clinics.” This series includes 30 chapter articles written by several nationally (and internationally) recognized pathologists, bringing concepts of pathology informatics into practice. The series was released in summer 2015.



Dr. James Harris Elected Newest Member of APMG Board

James Harris, MD is the newest member of the Affiliated Pathologists Medical Group Board of Directors. Dr. Harris will represent the Good Samaritan-Hollywood Presbyterian axis. He joins Doctors Meredith Peake (President), Alessandro DeVito, Vivian Mendoza, Boris Skyar, Thomas Hirose, and Kelli Chase. Dr. Harris is currently medical director of hematology at Pathology, Inc.



Dr. Robin Moore Talks to Patients about Breast and Prostate Cancer

On September 17th, Dr. Moore participated in the Providence event “Doctors on Call”.  A select few physicians and surgeons were invited to participate in this call-in program in partnership with CBS channel 2 and KCAL channel 9.  The phone lines were open for 2 hours for people to call in and ask questions on prostate and breast cancer.  You can view a video and photographs from the event

Dr. Eric Glassy, APMG Pathologist, Presents at IAP 2014 in Bangkok, Thailand

In continuation of decades of practice experience in the digital realm of pathology, Dr. Eric Glassy, distinguished APMG pathologist, was chosen as a keynote speaker for the 2014 International Academy of Pathology (IAP) Congress in Bangkok, Thailand. This meeting runs from October 5th through October 10th.

Of note, the Congress of the International IAP as the key meeting place for not only pathologists, but all medical personnel from all over the world. The Congress serves as an international exhibition showcasing a massive diversity of learning experiences, products, services and technology. The congress includes exceptional scientific programs and workshops presented by world-class speakers and experts in this field, including Dr. Glassy. Read More…
